We adopted Copper in October and he is fitting in with his new family just
fine.  He now has an older Dalmatian brother, Pyro, and a Dalmatian sister,
Molly.  Pyro has taught Copper to guard the house and bark at the
pedestrians on the sidewalk.  Who says Basset Hounds aren't good guard
dogs?  In turn, Copper has taught Molly to howl, which sounds really funny
coming from a Dalmatian.

Copper loves playing with his new siblings, and keeps both dogs active most
of the day. They have a huge backyard and use all of it for games of chase
and tug-of-war, and sometimes digging.  Right now there are piles of leaves
they love running through and even play "king-of-the-pile-of-leaves".

He's been a wonderful addition to our family, although we've had some
unusual behaviors to get used to.  Copper is a kleptomaniac.  If he finds
anything that's not bolted down, he feels it is his to take.  We go on a
treasure hunt everyday in the backyard to look for his (our) booty.  Now,
when something is missing, the backyard is the first place we look.  We
would have loved to have seen how he got the unopened 2-liter Coke bottle
through the doggie door while we were gone one day.

Our next adventure is to take the dogs to Mt. Charleston and see if
Copper's big feet act like snow shoes.

About 2 years ago we adopted "Bailey" from the Heaven Can Wait Sanctuary.   I can't begin to tell you what a blessing he has been!
His "daddy" Doug is a dear friend of mine who had suffered a stroke on his 40th birthday.  Having no family of his own we adopted him into our's.
Once he was physically capable of taking care of a pet we decided it would be a wonderful idea if Doug had a companion.
I discovered the Heaven Can Wait website where I was able to browse through a bunch of adoptable dogs.   The moment I came upon Bailey's picture something sparked inside of me.
I showed Doug the website and asked him to look at all the doggies.   Amazingly, he, too, was fascinated by Bailey!   So, we made an appointment to go and meet this special dog.
At first Bailey was shy and afraid, but I could see that he and Doug would make a perfect pair.   And boy was I right!
After a short while Bailey began to come out of his shell.  He's got such a wonderful personality, and he and his daddy simply adore each other.
Bailey has actually helped Doug recover from his stroke!
And Bailey has a lot of canine pals, too.   There hasn't been one dog that he hasn't charmed!
I would love for you to see our webpage and read about Bailey's latest venture.   And how he is helping two stroke patients now!

Thanks for all you do at Heaven Can Wait !   Not just for the animals, but for us humans, too!

 Sincerely,
  Kassie in Las Vegas

I adopted Angel from Heaven Can Wait last March.

Dear HCWS

We just wanted to send you an update on Milo (formerly Webster).

Milo is doing so good at remembering the commands he learned in your wonderful 'Pups on Parole' program, especially when treats are involved. We're currently working on fetching a tennis ball and he's caught on quickly. Milo loves getting cuddles, he's a very social and sweet dog with a couple endearing quirks. One of his little quirks is that he enjoys a routine each day. First thing in the morning he runs out to go the bathroom, then waits by the closet where his food is until he's fed, then waits by the garage door until we go for our morning walk at the park. His other little quirk is that he likes to be around us all the time. If I'm rocking Alec asleep and the door to the nursery is partly closed, Milo will walk in and push the door all the way open, then walk out and resume his own nap in the kitchen. I guess he's just ensuring he can see us at all time-it's a good thing I'm a stay-at-home mom.

He loves his sister, Maggie (our half-keeshond puppy) and gets her to play with him at every possible chance. He's also done wonderfully with our 8-month old son, Alec. He gives Alec kisses and doesn't nip at Alec when Alec tugs on his fur.

He's been great about his new diet, as it turned out he had food allergies, so he's on a Science Diet hypoallergenic formula, that has helped tremendously with his scratching. He's also getting better about only chewing on his rawhide treats, as the puppy stage of chewing on everything from skirting boards to sunglasses is slowly winding down.

Milo is the perfect addition to our family and we are so thankful to the staff at HCWS for helping us find him! A special thanks to Mary Ellen for all the phone calls and the early meeting to see how Maggie and Milo would interact, it was such a help and so kind of you.

I adopted Rex a couple of years ago at the Rainbow and Lake Mead Petsmart. I was just out and about working one day and decided I would like to get another cat, an orange one as a matter of fact.  So, I called the store, and they happened to have Rex.  I went in, and he was very shy and rather small. I thought he seemed nice and would fit into my animal family.  I had 2 cats and a dog at the time.  I adopted him and brought him home.

He fit right in, and got along really well with everyone.  He has since grown, and is just like our very own Garfield.  He gets into trouble because he loves to steal things in the night.  He takes sponges, small papers, mail, little fake plants, and my shoes (only certain pairs).  He especially loves flop flops and the Mr. Clean Magic Sponges.  He carries the things he steals around the house and puts them under the bed.  It is really cute, because when he is process of stealing, he meows a certain way while his mouth is full, to let everyone know what he just got.

He also loves to play with the other cats and have them lick him.  He is the alpha male and clown of the house.  All the cats just love him.  He likes to hide under rugs and blankets, and we don't even know he is there until his head sticks out or he meows.  Rex and one of our other cats, Smokey, they love to take each other's collars off and play with them.

Rex has added so much joy to my home.  My husband, his kids and I love him so much and couldn't imagine our life without him along with our other pets. I highly recommend adopting an additional pet to the household.  The little bit of extra money it takes for food and vet care is minimal compared to all the love and respect pets bring into your life.  Plus adoption saves a life.

Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to adopt from your organization.

Sincerely,
Debbie German

HCWS,   When people say " it's meant to be" it really means just that...

We've always had dogs in our home and had recently lost our last friend Otis to old age ( April 06). I didn't want a new dog for a while but that didn't last long when I'd come home to an empty house and no one to greet me.

That all changed when I looking thru your website one day last summer, I found a dog I was interested about, when I called I was told he had already been adopted.

I was in contact with Rachel and she mentioned a white wire haired terrier named Buster. Gave me details on what he looked like, and he was just completing the Pups on Parole program. The more I spoke to Rachel about Buster, the more I knew  I had already made up my mind about adopting him, without even looking at his picture. Rachel told me what Petsmart they'd be at and what time. I called her that Saturday to see if she still had Buster, she said he was sitting right next to her, we were excited to meet him that we got there as she was setting things up, the minute we walked in I saw him and that was it. Buster became Buster Brown that day.

Just the looking at his adorable face and ALL THOSE SPOTS! We connected the spots and found a treasure in Buster. He's such a character we feel like we hit the lotto with him. We love his greeting at the door, he's learned new tricks, gets so excited when I show him his toothbrush (I wish my son would get that excited) he loves the phrase "Buster, wanna cookie?" It’s treat time. He goes to doggie day care twice a week to keep him busy while were out of the house.

Heaven Can Wait Staff: Just an update thought you might like to know how Chewy's doing. He is a very patient and tolerant dog. I feel bad for him sometimes because of the way my daughter pulls him around the house with her by his collar, but he doesn't seen to mind he just goes along with it. Our only complaint is that he loves to be around us so much he has severe separation anxiety, the good thing is we don't leave him very often. We did get him a crate for those times when we go out to dinner or to the store and he does much better now other than that we are always home. As you can see his favorite thing to do is be around the kids especially when he can cuddle up with them on the floor. He has many talents and is extremely smart. He can open the sliding glass door, he can open the gate in our yard (we put a pad lock on it), he comes and gets me at his feeding times. His stomach works like clock work. He likes the skateboard. My eight year old is trying to teach him how to ride. He has become the perfect addition to our family. We want to thank you guys for all your hard work with these wonderful animals!!

Sincerely, the Doble Family & Chewy

Hi,  This is just to provide an update on Gracie, formerly known as Suki, whom I adopted on December 12, 2006, from the PetsMart on Tropicana and Ft. Apache.

As you can see, Gracie is happy, healthy and just adores her "boyfriend" and playmate Jesse, who also was a rescue pup I adopted in August 2006.

Gracie and Jesse are an absolute perfect match and get along so well together.  Jesse is very gentle with Gracie, to the extent of allowing her to pull bones, toys, and squeakies out of his mouth!!  However, Gracie has learned to respect the very few boundaries Jesse has established, such as meal times and his place on the couch.  He "enforces" these rules with simply a look or a low, short growl.

Gracie is slowly growing out of the "let's chew up everything in sight" stage (and that includes Jesse!).  We have already lost baseboards, stair spindles and three doggie beds to these "growing pains".  She somehow managed to drag those big beds out the doggie door and into the back yard where they ended up in a jillion pieces.  One bed didn't even last 24 hours.  I guess the color didn't suit her.

She was a little skittish when she first came here and stayed glued to Jesse, her protector.  She now feels completely safe and secure and knows that this is her forever home and that she is here to stay! I know this by the way the two of them thunder up and down the stairs and take half the house with them as they blast through the doggie door.

She shows her gratitude for her new "leash" on life every day with the licks, nudges, and affection she bestows on me and Jesse.  It's a shame that more people don't take advantage of one of the best, most fulfilling things in life - the unconditional love of a dog!

Hello HCWS,

My wife and I recently adopted a puppy from your staff at the Ft. Apache PetsMart.  He is a Chihuahua mix we named Maximus (Max).  He has had a wonderful start with us due mainly, I believe, to your Pups on Parole program.  He came to us a little shy but is rapidly growing into his name.  I wanted to thank you and convey to you and your staff that Max has a big, beautiful home and is adjusting perfectly.

Attached is an image of Max in his new sweater...it's cold you know!

Hello!

I just wanted to say thank you! I tell everyone I meet about Heaven Can Wait. I am so blessed to have found your website! I have been Maddison's "Mom" for 4 months now and I don't think either one of us could be any happier!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time and efforts!

I have attached a few pics of us happy campers!

Sincerely,

Nicole Crownover and Maddison

Hi HCWS

Just wanted you to see what the kids are up too... Maggie and Buster had a Dogs Nite Out on Sunday, the four of us got to have dinner together, as you can see they had fun getting dressed up and eating all this awesome food, ( made especially for them)

They got to meet new friends while dining out.. They behaved so well we were impressed with both of them.

Maggie is a wonderful addition to our family, even though she's a bit pushy with Buster, he enjoys her company, he misses her when she's at the groomers..

Thanks for the "hook up" with these two awesome buddies...

Ridge & Stella Brown

To My Family at HCWS....

Thanks to your patience & time with my training, I have found a nice home & family.

I would just like to say thank you for everything.  I showed my new family that I have been potty trained & know how to sit, stay, & lay down.  Now I am learning how to play fetch & shake hands.

About my family...I have a mommy, daddy, & a sister named Cocoa who is a pit/lab.  She already knows lots of tricks including: roll-over, shake both hands, & high five with both hands.  She helps me learn by example when it's time for treats.

Mom & daddy take Cocoa & I to the park to play everyday.  I also met a friend from HCWS.  Her name is Maddison (Maddie).  We have lots & lots of fun together.

Well I just wanted to let you know how I'm doing & give you some pictures of my family & I.

Tipi

P.S.  I love you and miss you all.  I will keep you in my prayers! :-)
