Nevada’s first private, non-profit Spay/Neuter Clinic is now open!  The goal of the clinic is to provide sterilization to 10,000 high-risk animals that otherwise would have been left to continually have litters.  This uncontrolled birth rate is responsible for over 30,000 animals a year being killed at the local shelters, that run out of room.  Nevada can’t adopt its way out of this problem. The only solution to reduce the numbers that die is to reduce the birth rate. 

Our clinic was designed to facilitate efficient, high quality spay/neuter services.  Our veterinarian, medical and non-medical staff were selected because they have specialized in sterilization services and have demonstrated the compassion and professionalism required in this unique, stressful environment.

Four days a week, we will offer low-cost and targeted no-cost spay/neuter, which include Rabies and some vaccinations. General Information

•  All services are by appointment only. 
• Clinic hours are Monday-Thursday 7:15am to 5:30pm.
• You will be assigned a check-in time by our scheduler and all animals must be picked up by 5:00pm, unless otherwise directed by Clinic staff.
• We are a spay/neuter clinic only.  We do not provide sick/well services or emergency services.
• By far the largest majority of services are performed at our spay/neuter clinic.  There are some cases, however, that we will refer to another vet.  The following information applies to surgeries performed at the HCWS Clinic only.
• We reserve the right to refuse service based on any medical condition or other factor as determined by Clinic staff.
• If your pet does not appear healthy, such as sneezing, coughing, runny eyes, vomiting, diarrhea or is lethargic, do not schedule an appointment until you consult a full-service vet.
• Although we can give vaccines at the time of surgery, it is recommended that vaccinations be current (Rabies and 3-in-1 for cats and Rabies and 5-in-1 for dogs) at least 2 weeks prior to surgery.  See your full-service vet for pre-surgery vaccinations.  Shots and surgery at the same time put an additional stress on the immune system and the vaccines given at the time of surgery do not protect the patient for 2 weeks. Your cat may have had a previous upper respiratory infection and can relapse from the stress of shots and surgery.  Your cat may also have been exposed to an infectious disease prior to coming to the Clinic or will be exposed to other cats at the Clinic.  The usual incubation time is 1 week after exposure.
• Low cost does not mean low quality.  We take pride in providing the highest standards of medical practice.  All female cats and all dogs are intubated and receive an IV catheter (for medication administration).  Pain medications are included for female cats and all dogs receive pre-surgery and take-home pain medications.  All male dogs also receive an E-collar.
• For feral cats and strays we will tip the ear.

Although we offer vaccines at the time of surgery, it is recommended that vaccinations be current 3 in 1 (cats), 5 in 1 (dogs) and rabies prior to surgery.  Shots and surgery at the same time can put additional stress on the immune system and the vaccines given at the time of surgery does not protect the animal for two weeks.

Ferals & Strays – all cats will be ear tipped.  If you own your cat, please read the following about ear tipping. Ear tipping is an effective and universally accepted method to identify a spayed or neutered cat.   It is the removal of the tip of the cat’s (usually the right) ear.  It is a no-cost procedure that is performed while the cat is already anesthetized for sterilization surgery.  It is relatively painless to the cat and the ear tip does not significantly alter the appearance or beauty of the cat.  We highly recommend ear tipping to prevent your cat from possibly being anesthetized a second time.  No other method of identification has proven to be as safe or as effective as ear tipping.
